Artist Statement

Toni (Lawrence Lowell) Putnam was born in Boston. She began as a painter and then became a printmakes, showing at the AAA Gallery in New York City. Mirror boxes were next, then papier mache masks and then bronze sculpture. She developed techniques for welding sheet copper and is currently working gin this medium as well as bronze. She co-founded Tallix Art Foundry, Beacon, NY, where she was a principal and worker for twenty years. She is widely known for her experience and knowledge as a patinator and has frequently lectured on the subject.
Currently she is in the process of creating a book on Corncrib Barns, an endangered species of Illinois. It will be illustrated with watercolors. She continues her work in encaustic, bronze and welded copper. Her work is represented in several NY area galleries, Chicago and locally.
