Artist Statement
Art is an engine for expression and thought. My series of Study of Warm and Cold, Light and Dark, is an exploration of colors and emotional context. By allowing the color to become more that just a pigment, it becomes a physical representation of emotion. I find myself relying on my instincts in order to allow myself to react to the work in process. As each color is laid down on the surface, each color leads into the next. I find that color can be more indicative of emotion rather than representational images. The physical presence of paint is something more than just a mode of color and texture it is a manifestation of light and perception.
My work during college was focused on installations. These installations were intended to create a space within which the audience is to walk into and feel a part of the installation. It is my hope that I can continue to create a space within my paintings. My current work is created for the sole purpose of expression and intellectual curiosity. By using line, shape, and color, I hope to convey a sense of space. This space exists within the mind, as opposed to the limits of physical space, the mind is boundless.
Artist Bio
Sven received his BA in 1999 from Trinity Christian College, Palos Heights, IL. He majored in Fine Art and Music Composition. After graduation he moved to Champaign to pursue job interests. After 5 years he has decided to pick up the paint brush and give it another chance.
