First it was one scarf, then another, then it was scarves for Christmas and birthday presents. As the yarn stash grew, so did the number of scarves she was knitting at the same time, until Novelty Knits was born. Novelty Knits features hand knit, boutique quality scarves and necklaces, both decorative and functional, in original and colorful designs. Deborah's scarves reflect her love of yarn and color, mirroring her passion for gardening, which has many of the same color and design elements. Her designs usually combine three or four different types of yarn--novelty yarn, ribbons, eyelashes, metallics--in interesting and unusual combinations. She describes her work as "fun, funky, and flirty" as well as elegant. Her work can be found at Wind Water & Light in Mahomet as well as the CU Spinners and Weavers Guild Annual Sale, Market at the Square, and various other venues around Champaign-Urbana and in the Chicago area. Deborah is happy to knit scarves as private commissions for special occasions, to match an outfit or coat, or because someone has found some yarn they love and doesn't know how to knit.
