Call for Youth Art Announced by Whirlwind
Organizers of the Whirlwind Project have announced a Call for Entries.
The Whirlwind Project invites school age youth (age 5–18 years) to submit up to 3 photographs that respond to the theme The Art of Being Neighbors. Interested parties should submit up to three 5-inch photographs of some aspect of their neighborhood, along with a completed application form and a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE).
Works not accompanied by a completed application form will not be included in the show. The SASE must be included if you wish your photographs returned.
At least one of the photographs will become part of a show titled “Windows On Our Neighborhood,” to be held along with a formal exhibition of images of Champaign-Urbana presented by Dannel McCollum.
McCollum is a historian of Champaign County, former Mayor of Champaign, and author of a recently published book on the history of Champaign County. He will give a talk at 12 noon on Saturday, April 22. Both exhibitions will be held at the Illinois Terminal, 45 E. University Avenue, in downtown Champaign the weekend of the Boneyard Arts Festival, April 21–23, 2006. Festival hours run Friday, April 21 from 4–9 p.m. and Saturday, April 22 & 23 from noon to 5 p.m.
Eligibility: Artists must be residents of Champaign County, between the ages 5 and 18.
Deadlines: All photographs must be received on or before Friday, April 7, 2006.
