February 18, 2006
VSA Arts announces the 22nd Annual Playwright Discovery Award. The competition is open to all students in grades 6-12. Entrants must write an original one-act script that explores any aspect of disability. Winning playwrights receive awards and a trip to Washington, DC. Selected scripts will be produced and shown at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. In conjunction with the playwright competition, VSA Arts calls for nominations for the 4th Annual Playwright Discovery Teacher Award. The Teacher Award recognizes middle and high school teachers who demonstrate how they creatively bring disability awareness to the classroom through the art of playwriting. Their students must create and submit scripts for the Playwright Discovery Award. The Teacher Award recipients also receive a trip to Washington, DC, to be honored at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and will receive funds for classroom materials.
