40 North Celebrates Parkland College Commitment to the Arts

Champaign - 40 North | 88 West members gathered in the Parkland College Art Gallery and Lounge on April 13 to celebrate the faculty, staff and students there who contribute so much to our creative community. Guests were treated to a reception and a preview of the 2006 Parkland College Fine Art Student Juried Exhibition .
Lisa Costello, gallery director, later presented the annual student awards. Dr. Zelema Harris was named an honorary 40 North board member, joining Mayor Jerry Schweighart, Chancellor Richard Herman, and Founding President of 40 North, Jon 'Cody' Sokolski. Current board president Heather Smith thanked Dr. Harris for her continued support of 40 North and the arts in Champaign County.
The reception was sponsored by the Parkland College Foundation, thanks to Carl Meyer (Foundation Executive Director) and Donald Dodds (Foundation President). 40 North director Jennifer Armstrong also thanked Jan Simon and the Community Education office for their partnership in offering courses for artists to strengthen their business skills. The workshops were recently featured in the Community Colleges Journal, a national publication.
Live jazz was provided during the event by the Nick Taylor Trio.
