A Call to Arts - Open Critique Summer Schedule Announced

May 26, 2006
Champaign - For the second year in a row, the Open Critiques have been extended - by popular demand - through the Summer months. See below for schedule and location details.

[The 2006-2007 Call to Arts schedule has been announced. Click here for details.]

Performance, visual, and literary artists are invited to come together to present work and participate in open critiques at locations throughout Champaign County. These introductory critiques provide challenging and insightful observations about new works, and offer exciting opportunities for artists to interact and network. Join the camaraderie and contribute to the expanding vision of art in Champaign County. A Call to Arts, organized and moderated by Jenny Southlynn, is co-sponsored by Krannert Art Museum and 40 North | 88 West. A Call to Arts takes place on the third Wednesday of each month at 7pm at a different venue. Fall-Spring dates for 2006-2007 will be posted soon.

Have you attended an Open Crit this season? Please click here to download an evaluation form and let 40 North know how this popular program can be made even better.

Music, performance, visual, and literary artists are invited to come together and present work and participate in this final Spring 2006 installation of A Call to Arts: Open Critiques. This month's critique will have a particular emphasis on all things music, although all art forms are welcomed and encouraged. These interdisciplinary critiques provide challenging and insightful observations about new works, and offer exciting opportunities for artists to interact and network. Join the camaraderie and contribute to the expanding vision of art and music in Champaign County.

Share a composition, lyrics, finished song, or other work in progress. Musicians should be prepared to perform, although bringing your work on CD is welcomed. If performing, please bring necessary equipment (i.e. instrument(s), amplification) as amps and instruments will not be provided.

Open critiques are based on constructive feedback and each artist will be allowed time for a meaningful critique. We will discuss artists' work respectfully, exercising common sense. We approach the work formally and examine how formal issues are working toward the realization of the artist's vision/intentions. Artists should bring their work, not slides, or be prepared to perform, not play a recording. In order to adequately and meaningfully provide critiques, it is important to examine the actual piece.

A Call to Arts, organized and moderated by Jenny Southlynn, is co-sponsored by Krannert Art Museum and 40 North/88 West, the Champaign County Arts, Culture & Entertainment Council.
