Work by 40 North Artist Member Hua Nian Featured in Decatur Exhibit

January 15, 2006
Decatur - The Decatur Area Arts Council invites the public to enjoy the January exhibit in the Anne Lloyd Gallery of the Madden Arts Center at 125 N. Water St. in downtown Decatur, featuring the work of artist Hua Nian.  "Undiscovered Tablets" balances two very different media - spontaneous watercolor and controlled pastels - in abstract compositions of vibrant, multi-dimensional color.  Originally from China, Hua reflects her life on canvas.  As she describes her paintings, she references her struggle on the balance beam between the freedom of American culture and the restriction of Chinese culture.

Hua Nian is a signature artist of the National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society.  Her paintings appear in international and national art exhibitions, winning awards at local, state and national shows.  Her works have been featured in the Chicago Sun-Times, Dialogue: An Art Journal, as cover art for books and music CDs, and on posters.  Most recently her paintings were published in American Artist Magazine.

The public can meet Hua at an opening reception on Friday, January 6 from
5:30-7:30 pm
in the Anne Lloyd Gallery at the Madden Arts Center.

This exhibit will be on display from January 6 - 30.  The gallery hours are from 9 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday and Saturdays from 10 am - 2 pm.

For more exhibit information, contact the Decatur Area Arts Council at 423-3189.
