Public Leadership in the Arts Awards Presented

Washington, D.C. - Americans for the Arts and The U.S. Conference of Mayors jointly presented the 2006 Public Leadership in the Arts Awards in Washington, DC, on January 25, 2006, as part of the Conference of Mayors' Winter Meeting. Awards were presented to Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell for Local Arts Leadership; Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack for State Arts Leadership; and New Orleans Center for Creative Arts | Riverfront for Excellence in Arts Programs for Youth. The awards honor elected officials, artists, or arts organizations that have demonstrated outstanding leadership in advancement of the arts. Awards have been given annually by Americans for the Arts and The U.S. Conference of Mayors since 1997. The Congressional and County Arts Leadership Awards will be presented later this year.
