Healing Arts Competition

The deadline is approaching for enties to be accepted by the 2006 Blair L. Sadler International Healing Arts Competition. The competition gives cash awards for exemplary arts in healthcare projects. Visit www.thesah.org for more information.

The Sadler Healing Arts Competition honors artists - both professional and student - for their impact on the quality of the healthcare experience for patients, visitors, families and staff.  By supporting superior artist projects at healthcare institutions and emphasizing the importance of research-based project design, the competition aims to close the gap between arts and healthcare.

Professional winners will receive $1000; student winners will receive $500.  Plus, winners will receive a complimentary registration for the 2006 Society for the Arts in Healthcare Conference – vision + voice – to be held April 26 - 29, 2006 in Chicago, where certificates will be presented at an award ceremony.  Winning projects will be promoted to the national media.

Submissions/Guidelines for entry

  • All applicants must hold a current membership with the Society for the Arts in Healthcare. 
  • Non-members can join in order to become eligible.
  • Submissions must be created or performed by February 10, 2006.
  • Only one submission will be accepted per member.
  • Applications must be complete and received by 5:00 p.m. EST on February 10, 2006.

About the competition
Competition sponsor Blair L. Sadler has been President and CEO of the San Diego Children's Hospital for over 25 years.  Under his direction, the San Diego Children's Hospital has received numerous awards for its commitment to the arts and their impact on healing.  Organized by the Society for the Arts in Healthcare and Annette Ridenour, President of Aesthetics, Inc., the competition was launched in 2001. The competition aims to emphasize the importance of research informed project design and help to close the gap between the arts and healthcare. In the process the competition encourages artists, art educators, and health providers to understand the important role the arts play in creating quality health care experiences.
