15th Artists Against AIDS Benefit Exhibition and Sale Announced

Champaign - The Greater Community AIDS Project (GCAP) is pleased to announce the 15th annual Artists Against AIDS Benefit Exhibition and Sale being held Friday, April 27 through Monday, April 30. With over 200 artists contributing their work, this exhibition is a hallmark of the entire community’s talents, diversity and support in the the fight against HIV/AIDS. Works in a wide variety of media will be featured, including ceramics, glass, metals, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture.

This year GCAP is pleased to announce that Artists Against AIDS will be held in the beautiful Orpheum Theatre at 346 North Neil Street (Neil and Washington) in downtown Champaign.  “The Board of Directors of the Orpheum Children’s Science Museum welcome this opportunity to open the theater for the first time in recent memory for such an important event,” noted William Ackerman, vice president of the museum.  “We hope that this will be the first of many community uses for this beautiful facility.” Please visit the museum online at www.orpheum.science.museum

The schedule for the event is as follows:

Friday, April 27, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.:  Grand Opening, Champagne Reception
 
Saturday, April 28, 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.:  Exhibition continues. Enjoy live music 7-9 pm.
 
Sunday, April 29, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.: Exhibition continues. Artists’ reception 4- 6 p.m.
 
Monday, April 30, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.:  Exhibition continues and closes

 

For first viewing opportunity, a private opening including live music, champagne and hors d’oeuvres takes place on Thursday, April 26. Tickets can be purchased for $50 per person at Circles in downtown Champaign and at the Corkscrew in Urbana, or by contacting GCAP.

GCAP is a local, non-profit, United Way Agency dedicated to educating the public about HIV/AIDS and providing support services such as a food pantry, rent/utility subsidies, transportation, temporary housing, prescription assistance, support groups and referral services. GCAP takes pride in keeping administrative costs down and more than 91% of all funds raised go directly toward client support and services.

The Artists Against AIDS benefit is the largest source of funds for GCAP’s operations and support of this event makes a real difference in our community. Contributions of any amount are appreciated and the following sponsorship levels have been designated to honor our generous donors:

Platinum - $1000 and up; Gold - $500 to $999; Silver - $200 to $499

Platinum, Gold and Silver Sponsors will be recognized in the event program and other promotional materials. In addition, Platinum Sponsors will receive six complimentary tickets to the private opening. Gold sponsors will receive 4 tickets, and silver sponsors will receive two tickets to the private opening. All donations are tax-deductible and a receipt and tax-exempt ID number will be provided to all sponsors.
