Dale Bigall – “Painting Sound with Color” – using color tracking to generate sound, getting people to explore the expressive capabilities inherent in a large interactive movement based installation. Colors have long been known to provoke emotional responses. In the evolution of language specific colors have even taken on a new meaning, such as the expression, “I’m feeling sort of blue today.”

Dale Bigall, a third year MFA Sound Design and Technology student is using color in a different way. He is using color tracking to generate sound to get people to explore the expressive capabilities inherent in a large interactive movement based  installation. Working on this creative project for a year under the guidance of John Toenjes and Jon Schoenoff, he has used color to create an interactive user generated soundscape. Red is not just red, it is a melody, and other colors can modify and change that melody. At this interactive art installation individuals can use brightly colored paddles, and a lot of energy, to generate sounds dependent upon the location of the paddle.

***April 18, 12-2pm (center is closed Sunday)***

At this year's Boneyard Arts Festival exhibit, the children of the Child Development Center at Parkland College hope to delight the art loving public with a series of art pieces that are sure to please the spirit! We dedicate this exhibit to Alexander Calder and his whimsical world of color, form and movement: works of art that awaken the creative, scientific, mathematician, and nature- loving passions every child has inside and is ready to share with the world.

The materials used in these pieces include watercolor, tempera paint, collage, structures, stabiles done with recyclables, and natural organic materials.  As we create, the children experience art aesthetically, art as science, as math, as an avenue to expressing emotions and growth in a socially healthy environment. The children at the Child Development Center are ages two to five years old.  These children know a lot about art and the wonder of discovery.  Please join us for an afternoon of truly amazing art!
