SWELL: Works by Deanna Krueger

Chicago artist Deanna Krueger's ethereal, abstract work blurs the boundaries between painting, drawing, weaving, and sculpture. Her current series delicately employs medical diagnostic film, monotypes, graphite, acrylic, and staples. The inherent translucency of the film and the watery marks devoid of the hand's presence evoke a multitude of associations: aquatic life forms, otherworldly geological formations, surreal vegetation, scientific images of the miniscule, and visions of the cosmos. Krueger is presently an instructor at Northeastern Illinois University. She is currently teaching Painting and Two-Dimensional Design. Prior to this, she taught at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Krueger earned her Master of Fine Arts degree in 2004 from Eastern Michigan University and participated in an intensive studio and art history study abroad program in Italy. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Michigan in 2002. Krueger received a Fellowship Award for Residency from the Contemporary Artists Center in 2005, an affiliate of the prestigious MASS MoCa, in North Adams, Massachusetts. In addition to a solo show entitled "Specimen" at the Contemporary Artists Center, Krueger's work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions including: "Resonance" at the Rotunda Gallery, Pfizer Global Research and Development Center in Ann Arbor, MI; "Minimal Maximum" at Gallery Project, Ann Arbor, MI; and a traveling group exhibit entitled "Adam and Eve." Please note our summer gallery hours as follows: Monday - Thursday, 10 - 2 and 6 - 8 p.m. The gallery is closed Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
