Thurs 7am-10pm: display of pieces by Centennial High School’s Advanced Drawing Class, instructor Shannon Batman Percoco. Advanced art students were asked to interpret and create a multi-media assignment based on their personality and identity: “A Map of YOU.” Each student placed a piece or pieces of recycled maps on their board and created a rich environment for description of self. Students also used charcoal, graphite, colored pencil, acrylic paint and collage to create a cohesive message. Each student included text as part of their overall imagery. The students were able to create a diverse and unique group of mixed media art which represents the special qualities of teenagers that are engaging, creating  and emerging into our society.

Also featuring works by local artist Melody Bilbo. Melody has a background in working with a wide variety of media; including photography, reduction sculpture, and painting.  However, her favorite thing to do is simply sketch with a pencil. Melody’s inspiration mostly comes from a mix of environment, music culture, and raw emotion; exploring contour of geometrics and organics combined with the boundaries set in logic versus abstract.  She prefers working with a cooler pallet and enjoys exploring the power of text.  Melody uses the pseudonym Mella D. as her signature on finished pieces.

www.urbanoutfitters.com

Fri 12-9pm: “Songbirds,” an exhibit of original pieces by S.J. Hart, courtesy of Kasia Kay Art Projects. Somehow out of their own space and time, the Songbirds are here. Allied with beast or bird, they are caught in a thorny, candy-colored dreamscape. The creatures - birds or nest raiders - shift in scale, their intent unclear. The forest itself, sweet and alluring, is an endlessly repeating, mutating space. Each of these highly composed scenes, each fragment of their story, alludes to traditions in Victorian portraiture, botanical illustration and printmaking. Their narrative is unfolding. Part animal, part child, the Songbirds live in a weird zone between imagination and reality, portraiture and decoration, grief and joy. For more, visit www.kasiakaygallery.com
